Rock smash

I have tried for almost an hour to use rock smash but it just don't work
i failed a hunt because of this so if anyone can tell me how it works it would help alot

Maybe you ran out of pp? You might have also been against a ghost type which are immune to rock smash because its a fighting type move.

no i tried to use it outside of a battle

im not 100% sure about this, but if you want your pokemon to do a move/activity outside of battle, like "forage" or summon ultra space with a legendary, you have to select it first, maybe you forgot to select it?
