Battling comes in a variety of forms on Complex! This guide will show you various methods of obtaining rewards for battling, and provide you with useful information on Clauses, Battle Errors, and more!

Gyms

Basics
Gyms are battle challenges that can be completed against either NPCs or other players to receive rewards. These Gyms can be accessed through /gyms in which information regarding each Gym's typing, rewards, badges, etc.

There are 18 Gyms total for NPC and Player Gyms, 1 for each Pokemon typing. Player Gyms are run by players who have been tested and selected to become Gym Leaders. NPC Gyms are always available, and have set teams that NPCs hold that are to be battled.

To view any earned NPC and Player Gym Badges, use the /gyms menu and click on the View Earned Badges button.

NPC Gyms
NPC Gyms are held by NPC Gym Leaders which have set teams that must be battled in order to completion. All NPC Gyms are Singles with difficulties ranging from Equal to Uncommon, and they have a 15 minute cooldown between each battle. Note: Gyms between Grass to Bug in /gyms only require the Gym Leader to be beaten, while Gyms from Fighting to Poison have other NPCs that must be beaten prior to challenging the Gym Leader.

NPC Gym rewards are given per Gym defeated based on typing. Rewards are claimed automatically upon the defeat of the Gym Leader and can be viewed in the displays above the NPCs. The following rewards are given per NPC Gym defeated:

Player Gyms
As stated above, Player Gyms are run by players who are Gym Leaders. Gym Leaders go through a selection process and have top notch battling skills, and are, therefore, a difficult challenge to face. These Gyms can either be Singles or Doubles, and can only be challenges if a Gym Leader of a typing is on and accepting battles.

To view a Gym's Leaders, go to /gyms and click on the Gym you are looking to battle against. Clicking the View Player Gym Leaders button will show all Gym Leaders of the specified typing, and show their availability/status. To challenge the Player Gym, click the Challenge [Type] Player Gym button to send the Gym Leaders a request. Note that they will only receive said request if they are online.

Player Gyms follow certain rules known as Gym Rules, which both challengers and Gym Leaders must follow. Information on Gym Rules and banned Items/Pokemon/etc., use /gym rules and /gym bans respectively.

Player Gym rewards are given per Gym defeated and are not based on typing. To claim these rewards, navigate to the View Player Gym Achievements button in /gyms. The following rewards are given per Player Gym defeated:
1 Player Gym - 1x Shiny Spin, $50,000 Coins, 30x Tokens

Additional Battle Info

There are a few NPC battle challenges which are only meant to be done one time per reset:
- NPC Gyms
- Gym Challenges
- Pirate Leaders

Gym NPC Is Being Fought By Someone Else?
The Server is sharded into multiple zones. If the NPC you are attempting to fight is already in a battle with another player, you can go to another one of these zones. For example, if you are playing on Red, and currently the Spawn 1 NPC is occupied, go to /server red-spawn-2 or /server red-spawn-3 and then go back to the Gym warp to try and fight it there.

What Are Clauses?
Clauses are the rules of a battle that both parties must follow. Make sure to check the Clauses mentioned in the Pokemon Selection Screen prior to a battle to ensure your team is eligible for it. Only selected Clauses are active Clauses in the battle, and each NPC on the Server has a set of them.

The following are Clauses you will see in Pokemon Battles:
- Bag Clause - Players cannot use items from their bags during battle such as medicine. Held items can still be used by Pokemon.
- Baton Pass Clause - Pokemon with the move Baton Pass cannot be used.
- Baton Pass 1 Clause - Only one Pokemon on a team can have the move Baton Pass.
- Chatter Clause - Pokemon with the move Chatter cannot be used.
- Drizzle Clause - Pokemon are not to have the Drizzle Ability.
- Drizzle-Swim Clause - A team cannot have a Pokemon with the Drizzle Ability and another Pokemon with the Swift Swim Ability.
- Drought Clause - Pokemon are not to have the Drought Ability.
- Endless Battle Clause - Pokemon cannot have a combination of held items, moves, and abilities that would allow a battle to proceed endlessly.
- Evasion Ability Clause - Pokemon are not to have the Sand Veil or Snow Cloak Abilities.
- Evasion Clause - Pokemon with the moves Double Team or Minimize cannot be used.
- Inverse Battle Clause - Type matchups are reversed. For example, Fire will become not very effective against Grass. Type immunities will also become 2x more effective against matchups. Immunities from other causes, such as abilities, are not changed.
- Item Clause - A team cannot have multiple Pokemon with the same held item.
- Legendary Clause - Legendary Pokemon cannot be used.
- Mega Clause - Mega Evolution cannot be used. Pokemon holding their Mega Stones are banned from these battles.
- Moody Clause - Pokemon are not to have the Moody Ability.
- OHKO Clause - Pokemon with the moves Fissure, Guillotine, Horn Drill, or Sheer Cold cannot be used.
- Sand Stream Clause - Pokemon are not to have the Sand Stream Ability.
- Shadow Tag Clause - Pokemon are not to have the Shadow Tag Ability.
- Sky Battle Clause - Imposes the Sky Battle restrictions from Pokemon X and Y.
- Sleep Clause - Only one Pokemon on a team can be put to sleep at a time. Self-imposed sleep from Rest can still be inflicted with this restriction.
- Smash-Pass Clause - Pokemon with the moves Shell Smash and Baton Pass cannot be used.
- Snow Warning Clause - Pokemon are not to have the Snow Warning Ability.
- Soul Dew Clause - Latios and Latias holding a Soul Dew cannot be used.
- Species Clause - A team cannot have multiple Pokemon with the same Poke-Dex number.
- Speed-Pass Clause - A Pokemon cannot have Baton Pass, a Move/Ability that boosts Speed, and a Move/Ability that boosts another stat. For example, a Pokemon cannot have Baton Pass and Shell Smash, or the combination of Baton Pass, Speed Boost, and Swords Dance.
- Swagger Clause - Pokemon with the move Swagger cannot be used.
- Weather Speed Clause - A team cannot have a weather-setting ability and an ability that boosts Speed when that weather is active. This includes the combinations of Drizzle and Swift Swim, Drought and Chlorophyll, and Sand Stream and Sand Rush.

Battle Errors

There are a few common battle errors from Pixelmon such as the Waiting Glitch, no HP damage, not being able to come out of the selection screen once a Pokemon has fainted, a battle not starting, etc. To avoid these battle errors, attempt the following:
- If your battle isn't starting after the Pokemon Selection Screen, press ESC (Escape) and try to start the battle again.
- Don't spam click to move the battle chat faster.
- Try changing up your team's lead Pokemon, or your team in general.
- Try using less moves that force your opponent or yourself to switch Pokemon between the battles.
- Dying by hazards while switching is also known to be one of the reasons that waiting glitches occur.

What to do if you get battle errors?
If you get a battle error on a NPC that has a cooldown that is 1 day or longer, take an uncropped screenshot of it and make a ticket on our Discord (/discord) under the help-and-support channel. Once this Ticket is made, provide your IGN, Server, and send the screenshot/where it happened.

Note: We only reset battle cooldowns for NPCs which have a cooldown that is 1 day or longer. These include the Elite 4, Battle Tower, Pirate Captains, etc.
