Why are my cactus not growing?

Hello. I believe cactus farms were nerfed. I experienced the same thing in where I build the first story, and it was generating decently, but after the second story production stopped to averaging maybe 1 block every 5 seconds... I would recommend looking into Sugar Cane and Bamboo farms :D

Sounds like cactus farms got nerfed. Try switching to sugar cane or bamboo farms—they seem to work better now

I think cactus farms were made weaker. Similarly, when I built the first story, it generated nicely; but, once I built the second story, production ceased, and I would only get one block per five seconds at most.

It does seem like cactus farming isn’t as reliable as before, probably due to recent changes. Red sand might help a bit, but switching to sugar cane or bamboo farms could be a better option since they grow faster and more consistently now.

Cactus only grow if all four adjacent blocks are empty. If anything touches the sides—even torches, fences, or other cacti—it won’t grow. Light level: Needs a light level of at least 9 daylight usually provides enough. Tick speed: Growth happens randomly over time; increasing random tick speed will make it appear faster if you’re testing.

Red sand can certainly help slightly by providing a more compact growing area, but it won't fundamentally fix the core issue of slow and inconsistent drops.
