Can Java and Bedrock Play Together?
How Minecraft crossplay works, and where to play it

Updated October 2026
Short answer: Not by default. Minecraft Java Edition and Bedrock Edition are separate versions, so Java and Bedrock players can't join each other's worlds or Realms. They can play together on a crossplay server that accepts both editions. Complex Gaming is one: Java and Bedrock players join hub.mc-complex.com (Bedrock port 19132) and play Skyblock, Survival, Factions and Prison together.
⚡ Quick facts
Java + Bedrock together: yes, on crossplay servers
Realms: no, Java and Bedrock Realms are separate
Server IP: hub.mc-complex.com (Bedrock port 19132)
Crossplay modes: Skyblock, Survival, Factions and Prison
Java only: Cobblemon and Pixelmon

Java vs Bedrock: what's the difference?

  • Java Edition runs on PC, Mac and Linux, and it's the version that supports mods like Cobblemon and Pixelmon.
  • Bedrock Edition runs on Windows, phones and tablets, Xbox, PlayStation and Nintendo Switch.
  • If you bought Minecraft for PC, you most likely own both, because it comes as Minecraft: Java & Bedrock Edition.

Ways to play with friends on the other edition

  • Crossplay servers: yes. This is the way to play Java and Bedrock together.
  • Realms: no. Java Realms and Bedrock Realms are separate.
  • Singleplayer and LAN worlds: no. Each edition can only open its own worlds.

How crossplay servers work

A crossplay server runs on Java and also accepts Bedrock connections, translating between the two editions so everyone shares the same world. Most use a tool called Geyser to do it. For players, it just works: Java players join like any Java server, and Bedrock players add the server's address and port.

How to join Complex Gaming from Java

  1. Open Minecraft Java Edition (any version from 1.12.2 to the latest).
  2. Click Multiplayer, then Add Server.
  3. Enter hub.mc-complex.com, click Done and join.
  4. Pick a game mode with the compass, an NPC, or a command like /skyblock.

How to join Complex Gaming from Bedrock

  1. Open Minecraft Bedrock Edition on PC or mobile and tap Play.
  2. Go to the Servers tab and tap Add Server.
  3. Enter hub.mc-complex.com as the address and 19132 as the port.
  4. Save, join, and pick a game mode with the compass or NPCs.
Consoles are supported too.

What you can play together

What's Java only

Our Cobblemon and Pixelmon servers are Java only, because they need mods that Bedrock can't load. See Can You Play Cobblemon on Bedrock?.

Will it feel different on Bedrock?

No. Bedrock and Java players play the exact same game modes with the same features. The only difference you might notice is that some menus look slightly different on Bedrock.
