How to Raid in Minecraft Factions
Cannons, raid claims, raid timers, shields and Raid Camps on Complex Factions

Short answer: On Complex Factions (hub.mc-complex.com), you raid by claiming land near an enemy base (a raid claim, up to 7x7 chunks for 3 hours), building a TNT cannon inside it and shooting into their base. Land 500 TNT in their base within 30 seconds to start a 10-minute raid timer, then keep shooting to keep it alive. Noob factions can only raid Noob factions and Pro factions can only raid Pro factions, and once grace is over, bases can be raided at any hour. New to cannoning? Practice in /camps: 15 Raid Camps in your own private world, with free TNT and ready-built cannons on the early camps.
⚡ Quick facts
Raid claims: up to 7x7 chunks, last 3 hours
Start a raid timer: 500 TNT into a base within 30 seconds
Raid timer: 10 minutes, refreshed every time you keep shooting
Who can raid who: Noob vs Noob, Pro vs Pro
When you can raid: any hour, once grace is over
Shield after a raid: up to 24 hours (Noob) or 6 hours (Pro)
Daily shields: one 8-hour window per day, set in /f shield
Practice: /camps for Raid Camps and Defensive Camps, /cannon for your own cannoning plot
Grace period: no TNT for the first 10 days of each 4-week season

How raiding works on Complex Factions

A raid is a TNT attack on another faction's base. Your faction's base is your base claim plus every claim connected to it, and it lasts the whole season. Raiders break in with TNT cannons, take the spawners and loot inside, and the raid ends when they stop shooting.
  1. Wait out grace: TNT is off for the first 10 days of each season. Use that time to build your base, and practice raiding in Raid Camps, which are open from day 1. Type /grace to see what's still locked.
  2. Find a target: use /f map to see the factions around you. You can only raid factions of your own type (Noob or Pro).
  3. Make a raid claim: claim land near the target with /f claim. Your cannon has to sit inside your own claims, because TNT only counts as your faction's when it's fired from your land.
  4. Build or place a cannon: build your own, or buy a cannon blueprint from /shop that builds itself.
  5. Shoot: land 500 TNT in their base within 30 seconds to start a 10-minute raid timer. Keep shooting to keep it running.
  6. Loot: blow out their spawners with creeper eggs, grab what's in their chests and bring it home.
Player bases can be raided at any hour of the day. Once grace is over, you can raid any faction of your type that isn't on a shield. Cannons and buffers must follow the Factions Rules, so read them before your first raid.

Noob vs Pro raiding rules

Every faction picks Noob or Pro when it's created, and the type can't be changed later. Noob and Pro factions can't damage each other's land at all: TNT and creepers from the other type are cancelled, and you get a message telling you why.

"TNT and creepers no faction owns" covers TNT fired from the wilderness, TNT minecarts and creepers from spawners. A Noob base ignores all of them, so only a real Noob faction's cannon or creeper eggs can hurt it.

Raid claims

Any claim that isn't connected to your base claim is a raid claim. This is where your cannon goes.
  • Size: each group of connected raid claims can be up to 7x7 chunks (49 chunks).
  • Distance: raid claims can't be within 7 chunks of your own base claim.
  • Duration: raid claims are removed 3 hours after you claim them, and your faction gets a warning 1 hour before a chunk expires. The claim warning and the /f baseclaim menu show the exact time.
  • Why you need one: TNT and cannon sand count as your faction's only when they're fired from inside your claims. That's what starts raid timers.
  • Gen buckets: lava gen buckets only work in base claims. If another faction's TNT explodes in one of your raid claim chunks, nobody else can use gen buckets in that chunk for 30 seconds.

Raid timers and raid alerts

A raid officially starts when your TNT lands in the defender's base land (their base claim or land connected to it).
  • Starting the timer: 500 of your TNT have to explode in their base within 30 seconds. Deep shots need less: the number drops the closer you hit to the bottom of the world, down to 125 TNT at the very bottom.
  • Keeping it alive: the raid timer lasts 10 minutes and refreshes while you keep landing TNT (250 TNT within 30 seconds once the raid is running). You get reminders at 5, 3 and 1 minute left. Stop shooting and the raid ends.
  • One raider at a time: while one faction is raiding a base, every other faction's TNT into that base is cancelled.
  • No third parties: during a raid, players in the defender's base and in the raiders' raid claims within 16 chunks of the breach can only be attacked by the other side of the raid.
  • Boss bar: anyone else who walks into either faction's land sees who is raiding who, and for how long.
  • Defender lockouts: while you're being raided, you can't use gen buckets in your base land, start wall repairs or place enchanting tables.
When the raid ends, both factions get a summary with the raid's length and the value raided. Every raid is saved to /raidrecaps, which you can search and sort by time, value raided, TNT used, kills and raid length.
Raid alerts: set them up in /f raidalerts. You can send alerts to a Discord webhook, pick how often the in-game alert repeats (every 15 seconds to every 5 minutes) and add a sound alert, then send a test alert. Alerts also cover attacks on your Raiding Outpost. Players can turn their own alerts off with /raidalertstoggle.

Raid shields

While your faction is on a shield, enemy TNT that lands in your base is cancelled (the raider is told how long your shield has left), cannon sand sent into your base is removed and creepers can't break blocks there. Shields only cover your base land, not your raid claims.
  • Daily shields: open /f shield and pick a start hour for each day of the week. Each shield lasts 8 hours. Once grace is over, you can't change today's or tomorrow's shield, so plan ahead. Type /f shield <faction> to see another faction's schedule.
  • Shield after a raid: when a raid on you ends, you get a raid shield of 30 minutes plus twice the raid's length, up to 24 hours for Noob factions or 6 hours for Pro factions. If the raiders took at least half of your base's value, you get the full 24 or 6 hours straight away.

Cannons and TNT

A TNT cannon is a redstone machine of dispensers that launches TNT across walls, usually with sand or gravel stacked in front of it to break through layers. Faction players talk about side cannons, nuke cannons, OSRB cannons and buffer cannons, and each one is built to beat a different kind of defense.
Whatever you build, cannons and buffers must follow the Factions Rules.
Ready-made cannons: /shop sells cannon blueprints. Place one inside your own territory and it builds itself block by block from a beacon anchor. Each player and each faction can start one cannon blueprint per hour.

TNT:
  • Faction TNT bank: store TNT for your whole faction with /f tnt add <amount> and /f tnt take <amount>. The bank holds 500,000 TNT, and you can raise it to 5,000,000 in /f upgrades.
  • Fill your cannon fast: /tntfill <amount> <radius> bank fills every dispenser within the radius (up to 50 blocks) to the amount you pick (up to 576 TNT each), from your inventory or, with "bank", from the TNT bank. /tntunfill takes it back out. Your faction has to give you the TNT Fill permission.
  • Other sources: TNT is sold in /shop, and every vote party gives TNT.
Good to know:
  • TNT doesn't damage players, so you can stand next to your own cannon.
  • Cannon sand and gravel never drop as items.
  • Pistons can't push blocks over a claim border into another faction's land, so flying machines can't drive into enemy claims.
  • Creeper explosions can't break obsidian, crying obsidian, water or lava, and creepers only break blocks they can see. See the Factions Server Guide for the four custom creeper eggs.

Sand Bots and gen buckets

Sand Bots stack your sand for you. Place one in your own territory and it fills an 11x11 area: sandstone becomes sand underneath, red sandstone becomes red sand and andesite becomes gravel. Each block costs its /shop price from the bot's balance (up to $500,000), which it pulls from your /f bank when you place it. Manage your bots with /f sandbot.

Gen buckets (/gen or /genbuckets) build walls for you. They come in cobblestone, obsidian, sand, dirt, soul sand, nether wart and lava, either dropping straight down or running sideways for 16 or 96 blocks. Infinite gen buckets never run out but cost money every time you use one.
  • You can't use gen buckets while combat tagged or in the Warzone.
  • Lava gen buckets only work in base claims (the infinite lava source bucket also works in raid claims).
  • While you're being raided, gen buckets don't work in your base land.

How to defend your base

  • Pick your shields: set a daily 8-hour shield in /f shield for the hours your faction is offline.
  • Use obsidian and liquids: creepers can't break obsidian, water or lava, so raiders have to bring TNT. Obsidian can't be placed within 3 blocks of a spawner.
  • Know your limits: stay inside your type's defense, regen and 45 limits from the table above.
  • Turn on raid alerts: /f raidalerts with a Discord webhook means you hear about a raid even when you're offline.
  • Repair your walls: /f walls rebuilds blown-up cobblestone, obsidian, water and lava from a saved snapshot of your walls, paid from /f bank, and clears cannon sand and gravel for free. It can't start during a raid.
  • Keep chunks loaded: a chunk loader (/f chunkloader) keeps a 7x7 chunk area loaded even when nobody is nearby. It only works in your base claim and costs 3 Gold Shards per hour to run. Higher chunk loader levels also boost crop growth.

  • Camps 1 to 8: the cannons are already built and loaded with TNT you can't take out, /tntfill gives you free camp TNT, and Raid Camps-only Sand Bots and blueprints work here. Camp 1 just needs you to get inside the base.
  • Camps 9 to 15: bring your own TNT. Camps 9, 10, 12 and 15 also need you to build your own cannon.
  • Loot: once you breach, the loot chests unlock and you have time to grab them before the world closes (20 minutes on most camps, 40 minutes on camps 9, 10 and 12, 80 minutes on camp 15). Some camps also have NPCs inside that drop extra rewards where they fall.
  • Replays: your first clear of each camp always has loot. Replays only give loot within your daily replay allowance, which resets at midnight ET. It starts at 0 and goes up to 4 replays a day, bought with Gold Shards (128, 256, 384 and 512 for each level). A replay past your allowance is a free practice run with no loot. Looted replays of camps 9 to 15 cost 64 Gold Shards to enter.
  • Challenges: after your first clear, you can add challenges for a higher score: TNT Efficiency (+15%), Speed Run in half the time (+15%), Solo (+25%), Duo (+15%), Trio (+10%), Squad of 4 (+5%) and Glass Cannon with only 5 hearts (+25%). Each camp offers its own set of these.
  • Score and leaderboards: your score comes from beating the camp's par and elite TNT counts and setting speedrun records, multiplied by your challenges. Runs are ranked globally, and you can set personal and global speedrun records.
  • End of season: on camps 12 to 15, the faction with the top score at the end of the season earns 1 Faction Top point per camp (2 for Pro factions). Raid Camp progress resets every season, so you work through the camps again from camp 1.
  • Restart or leave: /camps restart starts the camp over, and /spawn leaves.

Camp Time Trials

Camp Time Trials are a twice-daily race between factions. Every faction raids its own copy of the same base with free TNT, and the first faction to breach the core wins. Open /timetrial to see the schedule and rewards, and enter with your faction when sign-ups open.
  • When: 4 hours before and 4 hours after each Daily Raid Event. Sign-ups open 10 minutes early, each trial runs for 2.5 hours, and entry closes 2 minutes before the end. Up to 40 factions can race in one trial.
  • Fair start: nobody can build or use gen buckets in their copy until the trial starts, so every faction starts building at the same moment.
  • Bases: Night Owl, Against the Clock, Sands of Time, Frozen in Time and Golden Hour.

Defensive Camps

Defensive Camps flip the script: an enemy cannon fires at your base, and you have to stop it. Open them from /camps or type /defensivecamps (/dcamps). You need to be in a faction, and faction members can help.
  • Goal: destroy 20 of the enemy cannon's blocks within 30 minutes. If the cannon breaches your base or time runs out, the defense fails. The cannon fires after a 10-second countdown.
  • Rules: blast-proof blocks can't be placed, and the enemy cannon's TNT can't be taken.
  • Camps: An Easy Start, Just Shoot! (free TNT), Blueprint Time (free TNT) and Your Turn.
  • Rewards: money and XP pouches on your first completion of each camp (plus 2 Vote Keys on Your Turn). Attempts are unlimited and repeats are free, with no repeat rewards.

Daily Raid Event

Every day at a random time between 11 AM and 6 PM ET, a free-for-all raid base opens. The first faction to breach it wins. There are no raid timers or defenses, and the base has flat walls with no regens, so any faction can take a shot. Join from /raidevents. This time window is only for the Daily Raid Event: player bases can be raided at any hour.
The winning faction gets Iron Golem, Evoker and Polar Bear Spawners. The amount grows as the season goes on, from 128 of each in week 1 to 384 of each (6 stacks) in week 4.
For a weekly raiding fight against other factions, see the Raiding Outpost (/rpost) in the Factions Server Guide.

What you get from a raid

  • Spawners: a spawner that gets blown up drops as an item, with half of its stack. While a base is under a raid timer, only the raiding faction's creeper eggs can pop its spawners. TNT and other factions' creepers won't break them, so bring creeper eggs.
  • Faction Top value: spawners only count toward /f top once they're placed in claimed land, and placed spawners count for nothing for their first 48 hours and take 14 days to reach full value.
  • Faction Top points: if you raid 15% or more of a base's value, the defender loses 1 Faction Top point (2 points at 30%, 3 points at 45%). This happens when the defender is in the top 3, or when your faction is ranked below theirs.
  • Weekly prizes: the top 6 factions on Faction Top win GC (Complex gift card currency) every week, and the top 3 also get 3, 2 and 1 Plus vouchers. Pro factions earn double Faction Top points. Type /f topinfo to see the prizes.

Play Factions on Java or Bedrock

Complex Factions is free to play on Minecraft Java Edition 1.8 through the latest release (latest recommended) and on Bedrock Edition, with Java and Bedrock players on the same server. Join at hub.mc-complex.com (Bedrock port 19132), then use the compass or the Factions NPC at the hub.

Factions raiding FAQ

How do you raid in Minecraft Factions?

Claim land near an enemy base, build a TNT cannon in it and shoot through their walls. On Complex Factions, landing 500 TNT in a base within 30 seconds starts a 10-minute raid timer that you keep alive by shooting again.

How do you make a TNT cannon in Minecraft?

A cannon is a set of dispensers fired by redstone that launches TNT, usually with sand stacked in front to break through. On Complex Factions you can buy cannon blueprints in /shop that build themselves, and practice with free TNT in Raid Camps (/camps) or the cannoning world (/cannon, Warrior rank and above).

Can Noob factions raid Pro factions?

No. Noob factions can only raid Noob factions, and Pro factions can only raid Pro factions. TNT and creepers between the two types are cancelled.

How long do raid claims last?

3 hours. Raid claims can be up to 7x7 chunks and can't be within 7 chunks of your own base claim. Land connected to your base claim lasts the whole season.

How do raid shields work on Complex Factions?

Each faction can set one 8-hour shield per day in /f shield. After you're raided, you also get a raid shield of up to 24 hours (Noob) or 6 hours (Pro). Shields protect your base land from enemy TNT and creepers.

When can you start raiding on Complex Factions?

After the 10-day grace period at the start of each season. After that, you can raid any faction of your type that isn't on a shield, at any hour of the day. Raid Camps are open from day 1 for practice.

What do you get from raiding a base?

Their spawners and loot. Blown-up spawners drop half of their stack, and big raids can cost the defender Faction Top points. Climbing Faction Top pays off too: the top 6 factions win GC every week.

What are Raid Camps?

15 practice bases you raid in your own private world with your faction, from /camps. Early camps have ready-built cannons and free TNT, every camp has first-clear rewards and the later camps have score leaderboards. Raid Camp progress resets every season.
