Prison Resets and the Reset Vault
What a Prison reset wipes, what carries over, and how to save your items in the Reset Vault

Short answer: Complex Prison (hub.mc-complex.com) runs in seasons. A reset clears every player's in-game balance, plots and progress. You keep your GC, your store ranks, your claimed tags, your pickaxe skins and everything inside your Reset Vault. The Reset Vault opens about 2 weeks before a reset, and it's announced on Discord. Go there with /warp resetvault. Saved items lose their upgrades, enchants and runes, augments don't carry over, and the top 10 players on /ranktop get a Special Tag when the season ends.
⚡ Quick facts
Kept through a reset: GC, store ranks, tags, pickaxe skins, Reset Vault items
Wiped: in-game balance, plots and progress
Reset Vault opens: about 2 weeks before a reset (announced)
Go there: /warp resetvault (or /resetvault, /rv)
Free slots: 1, plus 1 more with enough playtime
Augments: don't carry over
Season-end prize: Special Tag for the /ranktop top 10

How Prison seasons and resets work

Complex Prison runs in seasons. Seasons let us bring in big new features that can't be added in the middle of a season.
  • Announced first: resets are announced on our Discord together with the next season.
  • Reset Vault: it opens about 2 weeks before the reset, and that's also announced, so you have time to choose what to save.
  • New content: each season brings a new set of prestige pickaxe skins, among other changes.

What carries over and what resets

Carries overResets
GCYour in-game balance
Store ranksYour plots
Tags you've claimedYour in-game progress
Pickaxe skins you ownAugments
Everything in your Reset VaultAnything you didn't put in your Reset Vault
  • Tags: claimed tags are tied to your account, so they stay with you through every reset.
  • Pickaxe skins: skins you own transfer through all future resets. See the Prison Pickaxe Levels and Skins Guide.
  • Augments: augments don't carry over, and they're removed through the Reset Vault too.

How to use the Reset Vault

  1. Type /warp resetvault (/resetvault and /rv take you there too).
  2. Right-click the Reset Vault at spawn.
  3. Click a Slot Available nether star to see the items in your inventory you can save.
  4. Click the item, check the warning, and confirm. The item leaves your inventory and goes into your vault.
Careful: once an item is in your Reset Vault, you can't take it out again until after the reset. Turn on Reset Vault Notifications in /prefs to see when players save and take out items.

Reset Vault slots

Each slot holds one item.
  • Free slot: every player gets 1 slot.
  • Playtime slot: a 2nd free slot unlocks once you have more than 48 hours of Prison playtime and your account is at least 14 days old.
  • Store ranks and Plus: higher store ranks unlock more slots, up to 27 in total, and Plus gives you the slots of the next store rank up.
  • +1 Reset Vault Slot vouchers: each one adds 1 slot. Get them from the Dungeons shop and from Skull Island pond rewards (Pond Mastery and the weekly pond winner).
Locked slots in the menu show which store rank unlocks them.

What happens to saved items

The Reset Vault saves the item itself, not what's been done to it this season. When you save an item on Prison:
  • Pickaxes: every upgrade bought in /upgrade is removed, and the pickaxe level and Blocks Broken go back to the start.
  • Augments: removed.
  • Enchants and runes: all enchantments are removed, and runes applied to the item are removed.
  • Hidden Treasure: levels pushed past max with Hidden Treasure are removed.
  • Backpacks: you keep the backpack, but it goes back to level 1 and is emptied.
  • Crate exclusive items: their enchantments and runes go back to their original crate levels.
The save screen shows each item the way it will look after saving, so you can check before you confirm.

Items you can't save

These don't show up in the save menu:
  • Stacked items (more than 1 in the stack)
  • Shulker boxes, bundles and spawners
  • Contraband, like Gold Shards and other Skull Island loot
  • Runes, tomes and Hidden Treasure
  • Private Mine Vouchers, boosters and Mana vouchers
  • Token items, flight vouchers, pouches and wands
  • Envoy items, clue scrolls, experience bottles, sponges and magma cream
  • Any item marked as not allowed in the Reset Vault
Contraband can't be saved, so spend your Gold Shards before the reset. See the Prison Gold Shards Guide.

Getting your items back

  • When: after the reset, the Reset Vault opens for taking items out a couple of weeks into the new season. It's announced when it opens.
  • One a day at first: for the first 2 weeks after it opens, you can take out 1 item per day. After that there's no limit.
  • How: go to /warp resetvault, right-click the vault and click an item to take it.
  • Full inventory: if your inventory is full, the item is sent to /collect instead.

/ranktop and the season-end Special Tag

/ranktop ranks every Prison player by prestige first, then by rank. You can also click the Top Players NPC at spawn to open it.
  • Special Tag: the top 10 players on /ranktop get a Special Tag at the end of the season.
  • It's yours to keep: like every claimed tag, it stays on your account after the reset.
  • How to climb: prestige as many times as you can. Prestige is unlimited in theory, so there's always room to climb. See the Prison Ranks and Prestige Guide.

How to prepare for a reset

  1. Watch Discord: the reset and the Reset Vault opening are both announced there.
  2. Spend your Gold Shards: they're contraband and can't be saved, but pickaxe skins you buy with them carry over.
  3. Pick your best single items: slots are limited, so save items worth more than their enchants, like crate exclusives or a backpack.
  4. Check before you confirm: the save screen shows what the item will look like next season.
  5. Push /ranktop: a top 10 finish earns a Special Tag you keep for good.
