How to Download and Install Cobblemon on PC and Mac (2026)

Short answer: Cobblemon is a free mod for Minecraft Java Edition, so you can install it on any Windows, Mac or Linux computer that runs Java Edition. The easiest way is to download the free CurseForge App, install a Cobblemon modpack, give it 3 to 5 GB of RAM and click Play. The modpack sets up the right Minecraft version, the Fabric mod loader and Cobblemon for you. To play online, install the Complex Cobblemon modpack and join cobblemon.mc-complex.com. Cobblemon doesn't work on Bedrock, consoles or phones.

What you need to play Cobblemon​

• Minecraft Java Edition on a Windows, Mac or Linux computer. If you bought Minecraft on a Windows PC, you very likely already own Java Edition.
• A modpack launcher: the free CurseForge App (recommended) or the free Modrinth App.
• A Cobblemon modpack: a modpack is Cobblemon plus every mod it needs, bundled together so it installs in one click.

How to install Cobblemon with CurseForge​

CurseForge is the easiest way to install Cobblemon, and it's what we recommend for most players.

1. Download and install the free CurseForge App and open it.
2. Click Minecraft, then sign in with your Microsoft account when it asks.
3. Open the Complex Cobblemon modpack and click Install. Your browser may ask to open CurseForge, so allow it.
4. Wait for the download to finish, then click Play.
5. The first launch takes a few minutes while every mod loads for the first time. That's normal.

The modpack installs Minecraft 1.21.1, the Fabric mod loader, Cobblemon and performance mods like Sodium, all at versions that work together. You can play it in single player or join a server.

How to install Cobblemon with Modrinth​

1. Download and install the free Modrinth App and sign in with your Microsoft account.
2. Open Complex Cobblemon on Modrinth and click Play.
3. Click Install in the Modrinth App, then click Play once it's done.

Other launchers, like Prism Launcher, can also import a Modrinth modpack. They work too, but CurseForge and the Modrinth App are the simplest for most players.

How to install Cobblemon on Mac​

Cobblemon runs on Mac, including Macs with Apple silicon (M1, M2, M3 and newer). The steps are the same as on Windows:

1. Download the Mac version of the CurseForge App or Modrinth App.
2. Drag the app into your Applications folder and open it. If macOS asks whether you want to open an app downloaded from the internet, click Open.
3. Install the Complex Cobblemon modpack and click Play.

The Complex Cobblemon modpack is fully supported on Mac through both CurseForge and Modrinth.

How to install the Cobblemon mod manually​

If you'd rather build your own setup, you can install the Cobblemon mod by itself:

1. Install the Fabric mod loader for the Minecraft version Cobblemon supports.
2. Download Cobblemon from its official Modrinth page or CurseForge page, plus any required library mods listed there, like Fabric API.
3. Put the files in your .minecraft/mods folder and launch Minecraft with the Fabric profile.

How much RAM Cobblemon needs​

Modpacks need more memory than regular Minecraft. Give Cobblemon 3 to 5 GB of RAM, with 4 GB working best for most computers. Don't give it more than about half of your computer's total RAM.

• CurseForge: Settings, then Minecraft, then Java Settings, and set Allocated Memory.
• Modrinth: open the modpack's settings and set the memory under Java and memory.

How to update Cobblemon​

When a new version of your modpack comes out, update it before you play, especially if you join a server.

• CurseForge: open My Modpacks. When an update is available, the modpack shows an Update button. Click it, then click Play.
• Modrinth: open the modpack in the Modrinth App and click Update when it appears.

If you installed the Cobblemon mod manually, download the newer Cobblemon file and replace the old one in your mods folder. On Complex Cobblemon, an "outdated client" message when you join means your modpack needs updating.

How to play Cobblemon online​

Once Cobblemon is installed, you can join a Cobblemon server to play with other people. On Complex Cobblemon, you'll find all 18 gyms, the Elite Four, the Battle Tower, Dungeons, free legendary spawns and an active community.

1. Launch the Complex Cobblemon modpack.
2. Click Multiplayer, then Add Server.
3. Enter cobblemon.mc-complex.com and click Done.
4. Join the server and click Yes when it asks to download the resource pack.

Cobblemon install and launch problems​

• Crashes or freezes on startup: raise your RAM to 4 GB (see above).
• The first launch takes forever: that's normal. Let it finish, and later launches are much faster.
• "Mismatched mods" or "outdated client" when joining a server: update the modpack to its latest version in your launcher and don't add or remove mods yourself.
• Items or Pokémon show missing textures on Complex: type /resourcepack in game.
• Low FPS: lower your render distance to 8 to 10 chunks.
