How to Add Shaders and Mods to Cobblemon
Shaders, extra mods and resource packs, without breaking your modpack
Short answer: To add shaders to Cobblemon, add the Fabric version of the Iris mod for your Minecraft version to your modpack's mods folder, put your shader pack in the shaderpacks folder, then pick it under Video Settings, Shader Packs. To add other mods, open the modpack in the CurseForge App, click Add More Content and install mods for the same Minecraft version and mod loader. Added mods and shaders are a common cause of crashes, so add them one at a time. On Complex Cobblemon, HUD mods and shaders are fine as long as the game launches.
⚡ Quick facts
Shaders need: Iris (Fabric version) plus a shader pack
Mods must match: the modpack's Minecraft version and mod loader
Complex Cobblemon: Java 1.21.1, Fabric
Allowed on Complex: HUD mods, shaders and resource packs, as long as the game launches
Biggest risk: crashes from conflicting mods
Before you add anything
A modpack is a set of mods that have been tested together. Every mod or shader you add is something that hasn't been tested with the rest, and it can cause crashes or lag. Unless you know what you're doing, we recommend playing the modpack as it comes. If you do add things, add them one at a time so you can tell what caused a problem.
How to add shaders to Cobblemon
- Download the Fabric version of Iris for your modpack's Minecraft version (1.21.1 for Complex Cobblemon). In the CurseForge App, you can also add it from the modpack's Add More Content button.
- If you downloaded the file yourself, open your modpack's folder (in CurseForge, right-click the modpack and choose Open Folder) and put it in the mods folder.
- Launch the game, then go to Options, Video Settings, Shader Packs.
- Click Open Shader Pack Folder, drag your shader pack into it, then select it in the list.
Shaders need a strong graphics card. If your FPS drops a lot, pick a lighter shader pack or turn shaders off. Some modpacks, like COBBLEVERSE, already include shaders, so check before adding your own.
How to add mods to a Cobblemon modpack
- CurseForge: open the modpack, click Add More Content, search for the mod and click Install. CurseForge only shows mods that match the pack's version and loader.
- Modrinth: open the modpack in the Modrinth App, go to its content, click Add content and install the mod.
- Manually: download a mod for the same Minecraft version and mod loader, and put it in the modpack's mods folder.
Many mods also need library mods, like Fabric API, which the modpack usually already has. Updating the modpack can sometimes remove or break mods you added, so check them after every update.
How to add resource packs
Open
Options,
Resource Packs, click
Open Pack Folder, drag your resource pack in and move it to the selected side. On Complex Cobblemon, the server also sends its own resource pack when you join. If you see missing textures, type
/resourcepack in game.
What you can add on Complex Cobblemon
- Allowed: HUD mods, shaders and resource packs, just like on our vanilla servers, as long as the game launches and runs.
- Not allowed: any mod that gives an unfair advantage, like X-ray or other cheats.
- Recommended: play the Complex Cobblemon modpack on CurseForge as it comes, unless you know what you're doing. Most crashes we help with come from added shaders and mods.
If the game crashes after adding something
Remove the last mod or shader you added and launch again. If that fixes it, that file conflicts with the modpack. For more fixes, see

Shaders and Mods FAQ
Can you use shaders with Cobblemon?
Yes. Add the Fabric version of Iris to your modpack, then load a shader pack from Video Settings, Shader Packs.
Why are my shaders not working in Cobblemon?
Make sure you added the Fabric version of Iris for the right Minecraft version, and that your shader pack is in the shaderpacks folder. If the game crashes, the shader or Iris version may conflict with the pack.
How do I add mods to a Cobblemon modpack on CurseForge?
Open the modpack in the CurseForge App, click Add More Content, find the mod and click Install.
Can I add mods to the Complex Cobblemon modpack?
Yes. HUD mods, shaders and resource packs are fine as long as the game launches. Cheat mods are not allowed.
Do I need the same mods as the server?
You need every mod the server uses, which the official modpack gives you. Extra client-side mods like HUDs and shaders are only on your end.
