Skyblock Minions Guide
How minions work, how to get more, and how to keep them productive
Short answer: Skyblock minions are worker NPCs you place on your island to gather resources for you, and Complex Gaming Skyblock (hub.mc-complex.com) has 5 kinds:
mining, farming, slaying, logging and fishing minions. You earn your first one in the rookie tutorial, then get more from Minion Recruitment in
/is minions, island milestones and crates, up to 25 per island on Competitive and 12 on Casual. Keep your minions fueled with Gold Shards and happy with good moods, comfort and food, and they'll produce more.

What are minions in Skyblock?
Minions do the grinding for you. Place one on your island and it works on its own, collecting resources you can sell or use. They're one of the biggest ways to grow your island and your income, and they keep working whenever their part of your island is loaded.
Minion types
- Mining minions mine blocks and ores
- Farming minions grow and harvest crops
- Slaying minions kill mobs for their drops
- Logging minions chop wood
- Fishing minions fish for you
Two support minions help the rest:
Chef Minions cook food for your other minions, and
Refinement Minions turn nearby minions' drops into more valuable Artisan Goods.
How to get minions on Complex Skyblock
- Rookie tutorial: finish it to earn your first minion.
- Minion Recruitment: open /is minions and click Minion Recruitment. It opens once your island has at least 1 Minion Recruitment Slot from Island Upgrades. Each slot shows a random minion offer that refreshes every 2 days. More slots mean more offers, and higher island levels mean a better chance at rarer minions. Chef and Refinement Minions are always for sale there: the first Chef Minion you buy costs $150M, the first two Refinement Minions cost $250M and then $1B, and after that each extra one costs $10M (Chef) or $15M (Refinement).
- Island milestones: island levels don't give minions, but milestones do. Mining 2 gives a Mining Minion and Farming 4 gives a Chef Minion. See the Skyblock Island Milestones Guide.
- Crates: minions can come from crates.
- Clue scrolls: Skyblock clue scroll rewards can include minions. See the Clue Scrolls Guide.
- Combine bench: in Minion Recruitment, the combine bench (the anvil) turns 3 unused Chef or Refinement Minions of the same type and rarity from your inventory into one of the next rarity.
How many minions can you have?
Your minion limit grows with Island Upgrades as your island levels up. Competitive islands start with 5 minions and can upgrade to 25. Casual islands start with 3 and can upgrade to 12. Open Island Upgrades from
/is to see your next upgrade.
How to upgrade minions
Click on a minion to open its menu. From there you can upgrade it with in-game money, manage its settings and linked storage, and check its mood, comfort and hunger. Each upgrade tier also needs a minimum minion level, and minions level up by working.
Fueling your minions with Gold Shards
Minions use
Gold Shards to work. They take them automatically from your island's Gold Shard bank, and a minion switches off when the bank runs dry, so keep it stocked. A full minion storage also pauses production, so collect drops or link the minion to a chest.
Moods, comfort and diet
- Moods: each minion has a live mood score built from comfort, food and high-fives, and its mood changes how fast it works.
- Comfort: each minion has a comfort score from 0 to 100, based on 7 things: Roomy, Lit, Sunlit, Decorated, Warm, Quiet and Safe.
- Diet: Chef Minions cook meals for your other minions, and feeding minions improves their mood. A Chef pulls its recipe ingredients from nearby minions' drops. Turn off Take from Minions in its menu if you'd rather stock its pantry yourself. Below minion level 4, unfed minions stay neutral. From level 4, an unfed minion waits a short time for a meal, then gets Hungry and its mood drops.
Essences, implants and Refinement Minions
- Essences: there are 4: Fish Oil, Resin, Flux and Mulch. Get them from the Dungeon Shop, the Pharaoh's Tomb, island missions and implants. Each essence refines a different minion type than the one it comes from: Fish Oil refines Farming, Resin refines Mining, Flux refines Fishing and Mulch refines Logging. Any of the four can refine Slaying drops, because each Refinery picks one as its Slaying fuel.
- Implants: give your minions a small chance to drop essences while they work.
- Refinement Minions: refine nearby minions' drops to full value, no essence needed. Adding the matching essence gives a chance at rarer Artisan Goods. Without a Refinery, drops are Crude and worth 50%. Refined drops are Common (100%) or Artisan Goods, from Uncommon (120%) up to Mythical (200%). The Refinery and its essence, minion meals and a Pampered streak all improve the grade.
Where minion drops go
Every minion has its own storage, and you can also link minions to chests and other storage systems so their drops collect in one place. On Casual islands, minion output also counts toward island milestones. On Competitive islands it doesn't.
Which minions make the most money?
It changes. Complex Skyblock has a dynamic economy, so the more of an item everyone sells, the lower its price drops. The best minion is the one producing what's selling well right now, so check prices before you expand, and switch types when a market gets crowded. More on this in
