Cobblemon Team Building Guide
How to build a competitive team: IVs, EVs, natures, abilities and movesets
Short answer: To build a strong Cobblemon team, pick six Pokemon with clear roles and good type coverage, then improve their IVs, EVs, nature, ability and moveset. On Complex Cobblemon (cobblemon.mc-complex.com), research any Pokemon with
/pwiki, change IVs, EVs, abilities and genders with the PokeBuilder (
/pb) for Coins, and change natures with Nature Mints. Then test your team at the gyms, the Battle Tower, the Battle Cafe, tournaments and Ranked.
⚡ Quick facts

How to build a good Cobblemon team
A strong team is more than six powerful Pokemon. Each one should have a job and work well with the rest. When you build a team, think about:
- Type coverage
- Offensive and defensive roles
- Physical vs. Special attackers
- Speed and bulk
- Abilities and held items
- Moves that cover weaknesses or support teammates
💡 Tip: Avoid a team where several Pokemon share the same big weaknesses.
Research Pokemon before you use them
Before you hunt or buy a Pokemon, check that it fits your team.
- /pwiki <pokemon> shows its stats, types, abilities, evolutions and spawn info.
- Check its base stats to see which role it does best.
- Check its abilities and movepool before you spend anything on it.
- Use its spawn info to hunt it yourself.
This helps most when you are choosing between Pokemon that could fill the same role.
How to get Pokemon for your team
- Wild Pokemon: find them using the spawn info in /pwiki.
- Hunts: Pokemon from hunts can get boosted IVs, which makes them good starting points.
- Catch Combos (/catchcombos): catch the same species again and again for chances at 1 to 3 guaranteed perfect IVs.
- Auction House (/ah or /auction): buy Pokemon other players list.
- Trading (/trade <player>): trade safely with another player.
When you buy or trade, look at IVs, nature, ability and moves, not just the species.
IVs explained
IVs are permanent values that set how high each of a Pokemon's stats can go. Every Pokemon has IVs for HP, Attack, Defense, Special Attack, Special Defense and Speed.
- Check IVs and EVs with /givs.
- Raise IVs with the PokeBuilder (/pb), Hunts or Catch Combos.
You don't need a perfect Pokemon right away. Most Pokemon can be improved later.
PokeBuilder costs
Type
/pb to open the PokeBuilder. It changes IVs, EVs, abilities and genders, and you pay in Coins.
| Change | Normal Pokemon | Legendaries, mythicals and Ultra Beasts |
|---|
| IVs | 10,625 coins per IV point | 34,000 coins per IV point |
| EVs | 425 coins per EV | Not available |
| Ability | 425,000 coins | 1,700,000 coins |
The PokeBuilder doesn't change natures or moves.
EV training and spreads
EVs let you build a Pokemon for one role. Common spreads:
- Fast physical attackers: Attack + Speed.
- Special attackers: Special Attack + Speed.
- Defensive Pokemon: HP + Defense, or HP + Special Defense.
Pick EVs that match the Pokemon's stats, moves and role. You can set EVs in the PokeBuilder, except on legendaries, mythicals and Ultra Beasts. To train them by battling, see
How to EV Train in Cobblemon.
Natures and abilities
- Natures: a nature raises one stat and lowers another. A Pokemon that only uses physical attacks rarely needs Special Attack, so pick a nature that lowers it. Change natures with Nature Mints.
- Abilities: some Pokemon have several abilities that change how they play. Change abilities with /pb.
Movesets and Mega Evolution
A Pokemon's moveset decides what it can do in battle. Don't just pick the four strongest attacks. A good moveset mixes:
- Same-Type Attack Bonus (STAB) moves
- Coverage moves
- Setup moves
- Status moves
- Recovery
- Team support
Some Pokemon can
Mega Evolve in battle with the right
Mega Stone and a Key Stone. A Mega Evolution can change a Pokemon's stats, type or ability, so plan your team around it. See the
Cobblemon Mega Evolution Guide.
Where to test your Cobblemon team
The best way to find weak spots is to battle. Good places to test your team:
| Place | What to expect |
|---|
| Gyms | Test your team and coverage. Gym rules: 6 Pokemon, Species Clause, Gen 9 National Dex OU, plus Sleep, OHKO and Evasion clauses |
| Battle Tower | Harder battles as you climb, with rewards for progress. Bring your three strongest Pokemon |
| Battle Cafe | Fight tougher trainers across 5 themed battle areas |
| Tournaments | Battle other players under set competitive rules |
| Ranked | Battle other players and earn Ranked milestone rewards |
💡 Tip: Losing doesn't always mean you need new Pokemon. Changing a moveset, EV spread, item or strategy is often enough.
