How clue scrolls work on Skyblock and Survival, where to get them and what you can win
Short answer: Clue scrolls are quest items on Complex Gaming's Skyblock and Survival servers (hub.mc-complex.com): right-click one to get a clue, like mining blocks, killing mobs, fishing or solving a riddle, and after 5 to 10 clues the scroll turns into a Cask with 3 random rewards on Skyblock or 4 on Survival. Rewards include crate keys, money pouches, enchanted armor, tags and rare items. Each game mode has its own 3 scroll types: Papyrus, Cactus and Emerald on Skyblock, and Ronin, Daimyo and Emperor on Survival. Which game modes have clue scrolls?
Clue scrolls are on Skyblock and Survival. Prison and Factions don't have them. They both work the same way, but each game mode has its own scrolls, clues and rewards, and a scroll stays on the game mode you got it on. New to either one? Clue scroll types
Every game mode has an easy, a medium and a hard scroll. Harder scrolls have more clues and bigger task amounts, and better rewards.| Game mode | Scroll | Clues | Best rewards |

How to use a clue scroll
- Hold one clue scroll in your main hand (not a stack) and right-click. The scroll gets its first clue, shown in its description.
- Do the task. The scroll shows your progress, like 120/150, and how many clues you've finished.
- When the clue is done, right-click again to get the next one. Each new clue is picked at random, so the same task can come up twice.
- After the last clue, right-click the scroll to turn it into a Cask.
- Right-click the Cask to open it and get your random rewards: 3 on Skyblock, 4 on Survival.
What kinds of clues are there?
Each scroll type has its own pool of clues, and harder scrolls ask for bigger amounts. Clues include:- Gathering: mine stone or ores, chop logs, harvest crops, fish and shear sheep.
- Combat: kill a number of a certain mob.
- Skills: gain EXP, craft or smelt items, or enchant items at an enchanting table.
- Building: place a number of a certain block, or fill a bucket.
- Exploring: walk or swim a distance. Some Survival scrolls also ask you to glide with an elytra.
- Server: play for a set time or type a phrase in chat. Some Skyblock scrolls also ask you to open crate keys, and the Cactus scroll can ask you to post an item on the auction house.
- Runes (Skyblock): apply runes, or open rune tomes on the harder scrolls.
- Minions (Skyblock): place a minion, or claim items from your minions.
- Riddles: a short riddle you solve by crafting, breaking, placing or using the right item. We don't post riddle answers, so solving them is up to you.

Other ways to get clue scrolls
On both game modes:- Vote crate: on Survival, the Vote crate can give a Mystery Clue Scroll. On Skyblock, it can give a Papyrus or Cactus scroll, or 2 Mystery Clue Scrolls.
- Personal milestones: in /milestones, completing your first quest gives a Papyrus (Skyblock) or Ronin (Survival) scroll, and completing your first clue scroll gives a Mystery Clue Scroll.
- Seasonal crates and runes: some seasonal crates give Emerald or Emperor scrolls, and some seasonal runes can find clue scrolls while you fish or dig.
- Other players: scrolls are tradeable, so you can trade for them or buy them from player shops and the auction house.
- Crates: the Anubis, Horus and Ra crates can give clue scrolls. Horus crates can give 3 Emerald or 3 Mystery Clue Scrolls at once, and Ra crates can give 5 Mystery Clue Scrolls.
- Envoys: the hourly envoy loot chests can drop Mystery and Emerald Clue Scrolls.
- Tomb Expeditions: Expeditions 1 and 8 give a Mystery Clue Scroll and Expedition 2 gives a Cactus Clue Scroll the first time you clear them. See our Pharaoh's Tomb Guide.
- Dungeon Shop: buy scrolls with Dungeon Coins: Papyrus 10,000, Cactus 15,000 and Emerald 25,000.
- Crates: the Samurai crate can give Emperor and Mystery Clue Scrolls, and the Shogun crate can give Mystery Clue Scrolls.
- Dungeon Shop: buy scrolls with Dungeon Coins: Ronin 20,000, Daimyo 25,000 and Emperor 35,000.
Clue scroll rewards
Every Skyblock Cask gives 3 rewards and every Survival Cask gives 4, and each one is rolled on its own, so you can get the same reward more than once. The chances below are per roll. Clue scroll tips
- Run several at once: every scroll in your inventory with the same active clue gets the progress at the same time.
- Keep them on you: scrolls in chests or backpacks don't progress.
- Use them before a reset: scrolls and Casks can't be saved in the Reset Vault, so finish and open them before the reset. See our Skyblock Reset and Reset Vault Guide.
- Help your island (Skyblock): finishing scrolls counts toward the Complete Cluescrolls island mission (3 on Casual, 15 on Competitive).
- Climb the leaderboard: on Skyblock and Survival, /lb has a Scrolls Completed category.

How do clue scrolls work in Minecraft?

What is a Mystery Clue Scroll?
A reward that gives you a random scroll from your game mode's 3 types, each with the same chance.
Can you skip a clue?
No. Each clue has to be finished before you get the next one, but there's no time limit.
What do you get from a clue scroll?

How many clues are on a clue scroll?
Between 5 and 10. On Complex Gaming, Skyblock's Papyrus, Cactus and Emerald scrolls have 5, 7 and 10 clues, and Survival's Ronin, Daimyo and Emperor scrolls have 6, 8 and 10.
Can you get clue scrolls from voting?
Yes. On Complex Survival the Vote crate can give a Mystery Clue Scroll, and on Complex Skyblock it can give a Papyrus or Cactus scroll, or 2 Mystery Clue Scrolls.
Do clue scrolls progress in a backpack or chest?
No. A clue scroll only gets progress while it's in your own inventory, not in a chest or backpack, and every scroll in your inventory with the same active clue progresses at the same time.
