Island Top Guide
How Island Top works on Complex Skyblock, what counts, and the tips top islands use to win

Short answer: Island Top is the Complex Skyblock (hub.mc-complex.com) competition where Competitive islands race for the most value sold through their Sell Portals. Spawners, blocks, money and island level don't count, only items thrown into a Sell Portal. Every week the top 10 islands earn points, and on the first Monday of each month the 10 islands with the most points win up to 500 GC, Plus ranks and crate keys. To compete, make a Competitive island, reach island level 5 and opt in with /is top.

How to join Island Top

  1. Make a Competitive island. Only Competitive islands can compete, and they hold up to 10 members (Casual islands hold 8 and can't join Island Top). A Competitive island can switch to Casual once, but that leaves the competition for good.
  2. Reach island level 5. See the Island Level Guide for what each level needs.
  3. Opt in. Open /is top and click Island Opt-In. You need the Island Top opt-in island permission, which the Owner has.
  4. Place a Sell Portal. Buy one in /shop 7 (the last block, crying obsidian) and place it on your island with a clear 5x5 area. Sell Portals only work on islands that have opted in.
📌 Note
A player with 2 or more days of Skyblock playtime who leaves a Competitive island can't rejoin that same island for 72 hours, so keep your team stable.

How Island Top value works

Island Top value comes from one place: items thrown into a Sell Portal on your island. The items are destroyed, you get no money for them, and your island earns Island Top value instead.
Value of each item = the item's shop sell price x your Sell Portal upgrade %.
The Sell Portal upgrade, in your island upgrades, sets that percentage. Going from level 1 to level 6 doubles the value of everything you sell.
LevelShare of shop valueCostIsland level needed
110%Free (default)None
212%$50M6
314%$100M13
416%$500M22
518%$1B37
620%$5B49
Two more things change your value:
  • Tomb Expedition champions: the island holding last week's fastest time on Tomb Expeditions 11 to 15 gets +1%, +1.25%, +1.5%, +1.75% or +2% Sell Portal value this week, one bonus per stage (up to +7.5% in total). See the Pharaoh's Tomb Guide.
  • Overheat: last month's 1st, 2nd and 3rd place islands earn 15%, 10% and 8% less value on every sale for the whole next month. It's replaced every month and never stacks.
The Pioneer Tax also makes island upgrades cost more for the top islands by island level. See the Island Upgrades Guide.

What counts and what doesn't

Counts toward Island TopDoesn't count
Any item with a shop sell price, thrown into your Sell PortalSpawners (placed or thrown in)
Crops with the Honest Work bonus (+5% per level)Blocks on your island and island level
Fish with a Big Catch bonus (plus that %)Money, your island bank and personal sell boosters
Refined minion goods, up to 200% for Mythical grade, when refined on your islandEnchanted, renamed and rune items, shulker boxes and chunkbusters
Raw (Crude) minion drops, at 50%Graded goods refined on another island, which count only at plain value
Items with no shop price count at the value of their cheapest crafting ingredients, so crafting items doesn't add value.

Trade Winds, Tailwind and Gales

Not every sale counts in full toward this week. Each sale through your Sell Portal is split by the Wind:
  • Wind is the share of each sale that counts toward this week's Island Top. It starts near 100% right after the reset and drops through the week, changing every hour: about 93% on Monday, 80% Tuesday, 68% Wednesday, 55% Thursday, 42% Friday, 29% Saturday and 16% Sunday, with random hourly swings that grow bigger late in the week.
  • Tailwind is the rest of each sale. It's banked and added in full at the next weekly reset, counting toward next week. Nothing you sell is wasted.
  • Gales are 1 to 3 short windows (5 to 15 minutes each) of 100% Wind in the last 24 hours before the reset, on Sunday. The Sell Portal hologram shows when Gales are possible.
  • Season Finale: in the last week before a new season, Wind is 100% all week, there are no Gales, and no Tailwind is banked.
The current Wind shows on your Sell Portal's hologram and in /is top.

Weekly points and monthly winners

  • Every week: at midnight ET, Sunday night into Monday, the top 10 islands by this week's value earn monthly points: 10 for 1st, 9 for 2nd, down to 1 for 10th.
  • Every month: on the first Monday of each month (at the same midnight reset), the 10 islands with the most points win the monthly prizes. Then points clear and a new month starts.
  • Points beat value: the monthly winner is the island that places high most weeks, not the one with the single biggest week.
  • Disqualification: islands that break the Network Rules can be disqualified from Island Top by staff.

Island Top tips and tricks

  1. Build income first: the Sell Portal pays no money, so get your farms and money makers running before you start feeding it. The Skyblock Money Guide and Best Skyblock Farms cover the best ones.
  2. Max the Sell Portal upgrade: going from 10% to 20% doubles every item you sell. It's the biggest multiplier in Island Top.
  3. Sell early in the week: Monday sales count about 93% this week, while Sunday sales count about 16%.
  4. Use late-week sales for a head start: if you can't win this week, sell on Saturday and Sunday anyway. That value banks as Tailwind and lands in full at the reset, so you start next week ahead.
  5. Save a stockpile for Gales: keep items ready on Sunday and dump them when a Gale hits for 100% Wind.
  6. Play for points, not one big week: top 10 every week adds up. Five weeks of 2nd place beats one week of 1st.
  7. Refine your own minion drops: raw minion drops count at 50%, while refined goods count up to 200%, but only when they're refined on your own island. See the Minions Guide.
  8. Upgrade Honest Work and fish for Big Catches: both raise the value of crops and fish in the portal.
  9. Win Tomb Expedition stages 11 to 15: holding the fastest times gives up to +7.5% Sell Portal value the next week.
  10. Chase the Overheated islands: last month's top 3 earn 8% to 15% less per sale, which is your chance to catch them.
  11. Go all out in the Season Finale: in the last week before a new season every sale counts 100%, and Tailwind no longer banks, so sell everything you have.
  12. Don't throw in worthless items: spawners, enchanted, renamed and rune items give nothing, and crafted items only count their ingredients.

Island Top FAQ

How does Island Top work on Complex Skyblock?

Competitive islands throw items into their Sell Portals to earn Island Top value. Every week at midnight ET (Sunday night into Monday), the top 10 islands earn points from 10 down to 1, and on the first Monday of each month the 10 islands with the most points win GC, Plus ranks and crate keys.

Do spawners count for Island Top?

No. On Complex Skyblock, Island Top value only comes from items thrown into a Sell Portal. Spawners, blocks, money and island level don't count, and spawners thrown into a Sell Portal are worth nothing.

How do I get a Sell Portal?

Buy one in /shop 7 (the last block, crying obsidian) and place it on your island with a clear 5x5 area. Your island must be Competitive, island level 5 and opted in to /is top for the Sell Portal to work, and you can pick it back up by breaking it.

What do you win for Island Top?

The top 10 islands every month win GC: 500 for 1st, 300 for 2nd, 150 for 3rd, then 100, 75, 50, 30, 20, 20 and 20. The top 5 also win Plus rank vouchers and seasonal crate keys, and 1st gets a custom island tag.

When is the best time to sell for Island Top?

Early in the week. Trade Winds count about 93% of a Monday sale toward this week but only about 16% of a Sunday sale, and the rest banks as Tailwind for next week. Short Gales on Sunday count 100%.

Can a Casual island compete in Island Top?

No. Only Competitive islands can opt in to Island Top on Complex Skyblock. Switching a Competitive island to Casual is permanent and removes it from the competition.

Who claims the Island Top prizes?

The island Owner, with /is top claim or the Monthly Rewards button in /is top. The custom island tag for 1st place is handed out by staff through a ticket in the Complex Vanilla Discord.
