Complex Gaming Rules and Allowed Mods (2026)

Short answer: The Complex Gaming rules come down to this: be respectful, keep chat appropriate and in English, and don't cheat, scam, grief or abuse bugs. On every vanilla server at hub.mc-complex.com (Skyblock, Prison, Factions and Survival), Litematica with Easy Place, Optifine, Sodium, shaders, terrain-only minimaps and armor and effect HUDs are allowed, while hacked clients, X-ray, freecam, auto clickers, macros and printers are banned. You can have up to 4 alts, only for AFKing, and Factions has its own rules page. The official rules live on our forums, and this page sums them up.

By joining the network, you agree that you have read, understood and will follow all the rules. Staff have the final say on anything the rules don't cover. This page is a summary: if anything here differs from the official Network Rules, the official rules win.

Chat and voice chat rules​

• Keep chat appropriate: nothing inappropriate, controversial or political.
• Swearing is allowed within reason, but never aim it at another player.
• Be respectful to every player and staff member. No harassment, bullying or threats.
• Racism, discrimination and hate speech are not tolerated.
• No spam, and no getting around the spam filters with signs, chat or commands.
• No advertising other servers, Discords or services.
• Only English in the main chat. Use /msg for other languages.
• Anything you can name in game (player warps, faction names, items, nicknames, pets) must be appropriate, and so must your username, skin and cape.
• Sexual comments involving minors are strictly forbidden, in any form.
• The same rules apply in proximity voice chat if you use the Simple Voice Chat mod.

Gameplay rules​

• No hacked clients or illegal mods (see Banned mods below).
• Don't AFK mine or farm, and don't use macros, auto clickers or remapped keys or mouse buttons for an advantage.
• Don't abuse bugs, exploits or glitches. Report them to staff on Discord.
• Don't lag the server on purpose.
• No griefing, and no stealing from other players or unclaimed builds (except on Factions).
• No trap teleporting or trap killing (except on Factions).
• Don't camp other players' islands, claims or builds.
• No inappropriate builds.
• Don't impersonate staff or pretend to have a rank you don't have.
• Never share another player's private information.
• Don't get around a punishment, for example with an alt. If you're caught evading on an alt, your alts get banned and your main account's punishment goes up.
• Account sharing is not allowed under any circumstances.
• Don't beg staff for items, events, updates or punishments.

Trading, loans and deals​

• You can only trade items for other in-game items or gift cards from the Complex store. Selling anything for real money or outside goods is forbidden.
• Scamming is not allowed: if you agree to a deal or trade, you have to hold up your end. Falsely advertising an item as something it isn't counts too.
• Loans are not supported in any form (items, GC or anything else). If you lend something, you take all the risk.
• Agreements to give items back, "give-me-back" deals ("if you win, you give it back"), Reset Vault deals and membership deals (like paying to join an island, faction or gang) are not moderated.
• If a player is banned while holding your items, staff won't move, return or replace them.
• If you lose items to a bug, an outage, lag or a scam, have a clip or screenshot so staff can help you.

Alt account rules​

Alts are allowed on Skyblock, Prison and Survival, but only for AFKing, like keeping chunks loaded for farms, spawners and mob grinders. You can't have more than 4 alts, whatever you use them for.
Factions works differently: bots aren't allowed, you can have any number of alts, but only 24 can be added to a faction with /f alt invite. See the Factions Rules.

Game mode rules​

Skyblock

• You can only compete for 1 Island Top island and 1 PvP Top island at a time.
• No insiding, backstabbing or betraying your island.
• Islands that are inactive for 6 months or more are wiped automatically.

Prison

• No insiding, backstabbing or betraying your gang.
• No using alts to boost Gang Top or get around the gang join cooldown.

Survival

• Leave at least a 2 chunk gap between your claim and other claims, and don't claim along a border just to stop someone expanding.
• Don't get around the spawner efficiency limits (for example, 4 grinders, 5 chunks apart, of the same spawner type).

Factions

• Factions has its own full rules page with map rules, base and raiding rules, and Noob and Pro faction types.
• Allies aren't allowed. Teaming is not moderated in PvE areas on the other game modes, like Skull Island, Pharaoh's Tomb, the Dojo and /pond.
• Funding TNT to another faction is not allowed by any method.

Allowed mods​

These client-side mods are allowed on every Complex Gaming vanilla server:

• Performance mods: Optifine, Sodium, Lithium and similar.
• Visual mods: shaders and graphics overhauls, brightness and gamma mods like Fullbright, and visual tweaks like low fire.
• Litematica and Easy Place: allowed on every server. The printer is not. See the Litematica Easy Place guide.
• Armor and effect HUDs: Armor Status, Effect Status, HudPixel, 5Zig, Badlion.
• Minimaps: terrain only. A minimap must not show players or entities, and on Factions no radar or cave mapping either.
• Inventory sorting: mods that sort your inventory or move items faster through the normal Minecraft menus.
• Content mods: cinematic mods like Replay Mod.
• Fast Place and Precise Place: Factions only, with a 14 CPS limit.
• F3+B hitboxes: part of vanilla Minecraft, so always fine.

Banned mods​

Anything that gives you an unfair advantage is bannable, and any mod not on the allowed list counts as illegal unless staff say otherwise. Examples:
